“Stop. Halt. Don’t move.” Aran’s shoulders dropped, defeated. He heard the forceful instructions clearly and, obeying the order, he froze. He was now staring down the nozzle of what looked like a laser gun, and a Cynocast, dressed in sleek metallic armor, was positioned behind it. Aran had seen the laser weapon in use before, but only from a distance when he’d stumbled across a working party of Regulators and Cynocasts. The rebellious Cynocasts hadn’t lived. With the laser aimed at him, he had nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. Taking a steady intake of air, he drew in what he thought would be his last breath. Nineteen wasn’t too bad an age to die, was it? He’d survived longer than most humans since the Regulators had migrated from their native planet and begun a systematic annihilation of all the inhabited continents on Earth. Earth, as Aran had known it, a planet he’d once freely explored and loved, was no longer the same. The Regulators, intent on dominating the solar system, if not the galaxy, were now methodically wiping out Earth’s civilizations. Where houses and soaring skyscrapers had once stood proud and strong, there was now only a flattened landscape of twisted iron girders and distorted blocks of stonework rubble. And for those of you with plans, (be it reading the To-Be-Read bucket list or writing that ever-elusive best seller), I'm wishing you all a happy ending for the 'old' year and a great start for the 'new' one. Here are some common motivations that might drive you to start writing: 1. A Passion for Storytelling: Many authors are driven by a deep passion for storytelling. They have stories to tell, characters to explore, and ideas to convey, and writing is their chosen medium for expressing these narratives. 2. Self-Expression: Writing provides a means for authors to express themselves, their thoughts, emotions, and ideas. It allows them to explore their own inner worlds and share their unique perspectives with others. Crying is a profoundly human and emotional act, one that transcends gender. There are all sorts of tears. Happy tears, sad tears, angry tears, and many more, that are caused by all sorts of emotions. However, societal norms and expectations often appear to impose restrictions on young adults when it comes to expressing their emotions. So, why exactly do young teenage men feel they have to hide their feelings or that it's wrong to cry and express themselves through the release of tears? Some teenagers grow numb to certain kinds of pain and think some things aren't worth crying over. They suppress their feelings and try to stay brave, not wanting to draw attention to themselves. They would prefer people to get only good positive vibes from them, and not have their tears of frustration, anger, or grief seen as a weakness to be remembered and used against them. Most young adults aren't keen on attracting sympathy or attention. They would prefer friends to see them as strong individuals, able to manage their emotions without relying on other people's help. But there are also other reasons why teenage boys and young male adults are reluctant to cry. And here are some possible reasons why... |
